Meet Corner Bakery Cafe

When in the Washington D.C. area earlier this year, I came upon the Corner Bakery Cafe chain of restaurants.

Corner Bakery was founded in 1991 as a chain of fast service breakfast and lunch restaurants. Many locations are located within Maggiano's Little Italy restaurants; not surprisingly, the two chains were previously co-owned. The chain comes across as very similar to Panera Bread and Atlanta Bread Company, but offers more complex items (such as paninis and full breakfasts). The atmosphere is considerably more upscale than Panera and Atlanta Bread, with catchy slogans like "Catering to your every knead" and "We've gone nuts and raisins over our bread". Of course, this is from a restaurant chain with the slogan "Feed the day", so what would you expect.

So, will we see a new CBC around here? Possibly at the mall? Tyson's Galleria and Northbrook Court both have Corner Bakeries, but in both of those cases, Corner Bakery has numerous other locations in the respective Washington and Chicago DMAs. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem likely that they'll enter the Boston area from what they've said...

Dear ***********,
Thank you for your inquiry about Corner Bakery Cafe coming to Boston, MA. Although at this time we have no plans to open a location in your area, I will forward your comments to the development team. I appreciate your feedback!
Warmest Regards,
Keith Marchand
